Zhuhai airport hub basement to be partially capped this year
Since phase I construction of the Zhuhai Airport Comprehensive Transportation Hub commenced on Nov 30 last year, 80 percent of the supporting structure of foundation pits and 20 percent of the pile foundation have been completed.
A total of 30 cast-in-place piles and over 2,000 pre-stressed pipe piles have been installed so far. Two hundred tubular piles and six cast-in-place piles will be installed daily to finish the pile foundation construction by May. Earth excavation will also start then to partially cap the transportation hub's basement within this year. Construction on the whole project is expected to be completed in 2024.

The transportation hub, which has been described as a "multi-dimensional, intelligent, and efficient air-land integrated urban hub complex with aerospace characteristics," is expected to help Zhuhai build a new comprehensive transportation hub on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary. Upon completion, it is expected to boost the civil aviation industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The facility will be located north of the new "Seabird" Terminal II of Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport and can realize seamless transfers between air, MRT, metro, bus, taxi, and private transportation modes. It will have two floors above ground and two underground. Its above-ground part will be shaped like a shell, while the underground part will be able to provide over 3,600 parking spaces.
