Checkpoint 7 eases passage for 3 million over 4 months
The newest checkpoint between Zhuhai and Macao, Qingmao recorded its three-millionth pedestrian crossing at 2:20 pm Dec 26 just four months after opening.
Now the seventh border inspection site between the two cities, Qingmao is second nationwide in passenger volume with, on average, 40,000 border-crossers daily since Nov 23. An extra precaution is necessary since those entering the Chinese mainland via Zhuhai-Macao border checkpoints currently must provide negative nucleic acid test results taken within seven days prior.

By relaxing clearance pressure on nearby Gongbei Checkpoint, Qingmao has increased economic exchanges with Macao, benefitting the prosperity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. For instance, the "Joint Inspection & One-time Release" mode requires travelers to queue and have documents examined only once cuts customs clearance time to 20 seconds. Dedicated staffed channels are also open for schoolchildren and the disabled.
Located over the Canal de Patos channel on the border of Zhuhai's Maoshengwei and Macao's Ilha Verde, the pedestrian-only Qingmao Checkpoint is 800 m (1/2 mile) from Gongbei Checkpoint and operates 24/7. Travelers have easy access to the Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station, city buses, taxis, and the downtown business district.
Checkpoint officials say that with regular pandemic prevention and control measures, they will optimize clearance services to contribute more to the socio-economic development of the Greater Bay Area.
