Airshow grounds now Apron 3 as Zhuhai Airport expands
The outdoor exhibition area of the Zhuhai Airshow Center has been approved as Apron 3 to provide 10 more aircraft stands at Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport during months that the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China) is dormant.
The 200,000-sqm (49-acre) grounds cost 50 million yuan ($8 million) to convert. Construction started in June last year off Airport Road in Sanzao Town. Pavement maintenance on the 13,686 sqm (3.4 acres) has been completed along with a 1,906-m (half-acre) boundary line, lighting, security, and surveillance equipment.
Apron 3 will again serve Airshow China during biennial sessions and the next one is scheduled Nov 8-13, 2022. Zhuhai Airport now has 23 aircraft stands while a second terminal and comprehensive transportation hub are being completed.
By 2027, the airport will have capacity for 198,000 flights, 27.5 million passengers, and 104,000 tons of cargo and mail annually. Seamless transfers between air, MRT, metro, bus, taxi, and private transportation modes will also be available.
