The concrete foundation for the main pier of Gaolan Port Bridge's east tower was completed 6.5 m (21.3 ft) below the water surface of the east channel of the Huangmao Sea on Nov 3.

Part of the 17-span Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge Project, the Gaolan Port Bridge will have two towers and double cable planes of 700 m (2,297 ft). The navigable height is 64 meters so that after completion it can allow the passage of 50,000-ton ships.

Bearing platforms for the two single-column concrete towers of 248.7 m (816 ft) height are to have been completed by the end of the year. Construction plans are continuously reviewed during the process while concrete proportions are mixed, and a vertical conduit is used to enable uninterrupted pouring. 

Whereas the Gaolan Port Bridge has two cable towers, the Huangmao Sea Bridge will have three. The entire Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge Project will connect Pingsha Town in the Zhuhai National Economic & Technological Development Area (Gaolan Port Economic Zone) over 31 km (19 miles) with Doushan Town in Jiangmen's Taishan by 2024. Particularly, the cross-sea channel will pass through Pingsha Ecological Park and cross the Huangmao to a point west of Fuliang Village in Chixi Town.

Along with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, and Nansha and Humen bridges, the grand structure will help turn the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a global first-class bay area and city cluster with vitality and global competitiveness.
