Doumen displays matchless culture in early September
The 6th Doumen Folk Culture Exhibition will be held Sept 6 to 12 to promote the district's distinct intangible cultural heritages and local culinary delicacies.
Scheduled are competitions of operas and Quyi (a traditional folk art of ballads, storytelling, comic dialogue, and crosstalk), Lion Dance, Fish Cage Weaving, and Shatian Folk Songs.
Performances include Burning Bamboo Stick Incense on the 30th Day of the Seventh Lunar Month, Sacrificial Rites of Imperial Family, a Cantonese Operatic Songs collection from Zhuhai, Zhongshan, and Jiangmen, and Gaozhou Puppet Show.

Also arranged are an intangible cultural heritage exhibition, sales of intangible cultural heritage and cultural-creative products, and promotion of tourism products.
On Sept 11, a fair at Doumen Civic Park off Zhufeng Avenue will offer the following local dishes: Hengshan Preserved Duck Bundle (Ya Zha Bao), Dachikan Open Flame Roast Pork & Spareribs, Hushan Jinchao Pipa Duck, Hakka Salt Tea, Shrimp Glutinous Rice Cake, Wormwood Rice Cake, Lianxi Moon Cake With Red Bean Paste, Doumen Chicken-Shaped Cake and Li's Herbal Tea.
Sept 12 will bring about a collective On-Water Wedding ceremony that reproduces the 400-year-old State-level intangible cultural heritage in Nan'ao Village, Baijiao Town. Applications for participation will be accepted between Aug 10 and 31.
The event is organized by the Doumen Culture and Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection centers and sponsored by the Doumen District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau. It is expected to further publicize Doumen folk culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
