The special economic zones of Zhuhai and Shenzhen participated in a nationwide shortwave "Radio Lights Up the Revolutionary Journey" event that traced the role of long-distance communication from the founding of the Communist Party of China to today.

On June 3, the Reform & Opening Up SEZs were the two short-wave communication points in Guangdong Province and among 18 locations nationwide in touch with the Radio Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Industry & Information Technology. They paid tribute to Morse code broadcasts about the First National Congress of the CPC, Long March, War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, War of Liberation, War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, "Two Bombs, One Satellite" project, and strategies to empower the nation through manufacturing and the internet.

Part of the background is that: "In 1931, the Red Army seized a complete set of radio stations. After that, the Central Red Army used radio technology to accurately grasp the enemy's movements in a timely manner, and quickly deployed operations." In commemoration this month, the 18 shortwave radio stations interacted with Beijing via voice calls, Morse code, and Chinese Pattern 16 (CP16) messages.

Shenzhen, for example, telegrammed the message: "Emancipate the mind, reform with determination, pioneer, and innovate."

The "Radio Lights Up the Revolutionary Journey" event was organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
