The Zhuhai Municipal Party Committee and People's Government proposed the integrated development of Hengqin New Area, the Zhuhai FTZ, and Hongwan as a New Urban Center in October 2017. This was done in the context of development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Economic Zone.
Nine key projects came under construction and 18 major ones contracted for settlement in the integrated zone on Dec 26, 2017. Since last July, 46 lots for integrated industrial development have been created in a reclaimed area of 1.6 sqkm (395 acres).
Meanwhile, a Three Horizontal & Five Vertical skeleton road network has taken shape, and talent housing is being prepared. Kindergartens, and FTZ Number 1 and Shizimen primary schools will open this fall, while planning and construction of medical, culture and art, and community service centers progress.
