Doumen swamp cypress decked in flamboyant foliage
The feather-like leaves of swamp cypress trees in Doumen District have taken on golden and reddish hues due to colder weather. Throngs of visitors are expected through the Spring Festival holiday (Feb 11 to 17) before the stately trees turn green once more.
They can be admired at Fenzhou Village of Lianzhou Town, Shangzhou Village of Doumen Town, and Huangyang River Wetland and Xiashan parks. The trees are also known as taxodium distichum and bald cypress, because after the flat leaves turn color, they fall leaving the tree looking bare.
