Commuters to and from Hengqin are now personalizing routes, reserving bus seats, viewing arrival time and bus speed, and getting discounts using China's first Smart Commute system.

Zhuhai Lcola Technology's Smart Commute system is designed for convenient and low-cost travel. The Hengqin company's system automatically records ride data, vehicle information, commuting routes, and more to generate reports for effective operation.

As of this month, some 2,000 Hengqin workers are requesting routes and stops by registering for transport coupons from WeChat account hengqinxinqu. Upon a coupon scan, the system collects data on all bus lines and analyses the requested route, scheduling factors, vehicle deployment, and driver status. It then provides an optimal commuting route.

What are called Hengqin Hao new-energy buses run on 20 routes to Xiangzhou, Jinwan, and Doumen districts, and Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town during the initial stage. Routes will be added to industrial parks, enterprises, and tourist attractions on Hengqin Island, while the system will also tap into social contact and shopping functions.

Until now, most workers commuted between Hengqin and downtown by bus or private vehicle. Company shuttle buses could not cover enough area, public transport was inadequate, and traffic congestion grew as more people came to work in rapidly developing Hengqin.
