The congested Zhuhai Bridge and heavily used Zhuhai Avenue became easier to travel Dec 15 when the Honghe Bridge accepted vehicular traffic, temporarily toll-free.

Opening along with the second crossing between the city's east and west wings are the entire Jinqin Express Road, Meihua-Zaobei interchange section of the Xianghai Bridge feeder, and road section between the Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway and East Airport Road of the Hezhou-Gaolan Port Expressway.

After four years of construction, the 9.65-km (6-mile) Honghe Bridge connects the Hongwan Interchange in Nanping Town with South Hezhou Reclamation Area in Jinwan District. The dual six-lane expressway has no traffic lights and a maximum speed of 100 kmph (62 mph). Travel between Xiangzhou's Nanwan Urban Area to Jinwan's Aviation New Town is cut to fewer than 30 minutes.

From east of the Qianshan River, motorists can choose between the Xianghai Bridge feeder or Jinqin Express Road. The entrance-exit ramp of the feeder is near the Zhuhai Road & Bridge Administration on West Renmin Road.

Driving south along the feeder and across new Nanping Bridge to North Nanwan Road via Jinqin Express Road, motorists can take the Jialin Mt Tunnel to the Hongwan Interchange. The interchange is linked to the Guangzhou-Macao Expressway in the north, Second Hengqin Bridge in the south, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge link line in the east.

Those bound for the Honghe Bridge should choose the "Jinwan" direction. The bridge connects to the Hezhou-Gaolan Port Expressway via the Hezhou South Interchange. The Hezhou Denglong section of Zhuhai Avenue and Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway are reachable in the north, while the Jinwan Golden Gulf Golf Club is not far to the west.

Motorists departing from Tangjiawan can drive along Jinfeng Road, Fenghuang Mt Tunnel, and the Xianghai Expressway.
