European-styled bridge towers rise in Qianshan River
Construction of the Second Nanping Bridge will be completed by the end of 2021 to facilitate travel between the town and Qianshan, the Zhuhai Highway Affairs Center and Huafa Group announced Nov 2.
To date, water surface has been broken for the two main towers, and work on side span substructures has been completed. The installation of box girder bracket is underway.

The cable bent towers and bridgeheads of the dual four-lane bridge are designed in classic European style similar to the Baishi Bridge over the Qianshan River. The curvilinear suspended cable supposedly will have a strong visual effect that contrasts with the more sedate cable bent towers.
"Elegant static lights" are to bathe the bridge at night. Green energy-saving LED lights and shading devices will be used to control light pollution, while an automatic switch between night and late-night modes is to balance aesthetic effect and energy conservation.
Pedestrians will access the bridge via stairs and escalators at both bridgeheads. Motorists can turn from Jinji to Rongtai roads via the bridge, and reach Xiaoqiao Road through the connected dual four-lane Zhuhai Avenue overpass.
The footbridge east of the overpass will pass over Zhuhai Avenue directly to Xianqiao Road. The traffic light at the intersection can be eliminated to reduce congestion once the footbridge opens. The major structure will be hoisted into place before Spring Festival. Surrounding roadways will be upgraded as part of the project.
