The Xiangshan Culture & Art Center came under construction Sept 29 to enhance public cultural facilities in Xiangzhou District and provide additional access to Xiangshan Lake Park.

The Lingnan-styled (Cantonese) Cultural & Art Center will comprise a District Library, theater, parent-child activity zone, 360-stall underground parking lot, and support facilities, It will cover floorage of 48,000 sqm (12 acres) on 14,000 sqm (3 acres) near Xiangshan Lake off Jianmin Road in New Xiangzhou.

The Cultural & Art Center and District Library buildings will be connected by corridor. Construction, which should take 2 1/2 years, will follow a green, environmentally friendly, and energy-conserving concept.

Nearby, the Phoenix Valley ecological tourism project at the former site of Agricultural Paradise is being developed along with the Xiangshan Lake Hotel and Fenghuang Mt hiking trails. All of these should establish Xiangzhou as a complete venue of culture, characteristic tourism, commerce, and leisure, said Liu Qiying, head of the district.
