Prize-winning National Day performances, lantern riddle guessing, kite flying, boat racing, and free wedding photography will mark the Oct 1 opening of Pingsha New Town Central Park.
The Jinwan District facility covers 420,000 sq m (104 acres) and is the largest of its kind in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone. It is surrounded by Pinghai, Wenlou, Ming'en, and Lixin roads in the initial area of Pingsha New Town.

Costing 200 million yuan ($29 million), the park has a 200-m (657-ft) beach, lotus pond, square, children's playground, dam, antique bridges, bicycle lanes, and footpaths and tracks around the central lake or through the forests.
Designed for fitness, leisure, aquatic entertainment, and science popularization, the park is landscaped for Sponge City construction and low-impact development.
An important part of Western Eco-New Town, the 25-sq-km (10-sq-mile) Pingsha New Area fronts the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway and Gaolan Port Expressway in the east, north section of the Marine Engineering Equipment Manufacturing Zone in the south, Huangmao Sea in the west, and Fushan Industrial Park in the north. The livable coastal new town will provide Gaolan with high-end residential facilities and services.
