A garden-styled Xiangzhou Social Welfare Center will rise at the former site of the small Qianshan Nursing Home, which was demolished in December 2019.

To open by June 2022, the new center will provide medical treatment, healthcare, nursing, entertainment, and other services for seniors, according to Xiangzhou Zhengfang Holdings, the builder.

The former nursing home could accommodate only a dozen seniors but the new center will have floorage of 76,030 sq m (19 acres), 1,200 beds, and 360 underground parking spaces. The new facility will occupy 15,133 sq m (4 acres) west of South Cuiqian Road, north of Anlian Road, and south of Meisheng Street.

According to the design, the center will have a 4,800-sq-m (1-acre) overhanging courtyard enclosed by two tower buildings. Seniors will exercise, socialize, and rest at the central garden on the first floor, while two sunken courtyards on B1 will allow for tranquil rest space, ample sunshine, and views. A third-floor garden is to be dedicated for dementia patients.

On the north side is planned an L-shaped nursing building with floors, activity space, and care facilities for dementia, device-aided, and self-care seniors.

A two-story annex building will house a reception center for daycare, physical examinations, consulting, meetings, and publicity. A wellness center for yoga, billiards, table tennis, and Tai Chi, is also to hold a large fitness area and swimming pool. The dining center on the second floor will offer a 700-sq-m (2,510-sq-ft) open-view restaurant and café, and the entertainment center will have a KTV, library, and areas for films and television, chess and cards, and handicrafts.

The south tower building will be a medical treatment center. Proposed are 99 patient beds, consulting rooms, and wards built to first-grade hospital standards, a center with rehabilitation and swimming pools, and an independent canteen with good views. Most rooms of the medical treatment and nursing centers face south to have ample daylight.
