Training camps promoting rural e-commerce opened Sept 9 for up to 400 technically fluent Zhuhai candidates to learn about overseas sales channels, support services for country data, overseas capital, and more through two months of lessons, practice, and field investigations.

The trainees are given access to Hengqin Bringbuys Web Technology for international transactions with Macao and Portuguese-speaking and Latin American countries. All tuition is covered by the provincial government.

During a two-day session held in Hengqin, the first batch of 100 students learned from experts, scholars, and industrial heavyweights from the China International Electronic Commerce Center of the Ministry of Commerce and Jingxi, a social e-commerce platform under internet services company JD.

A trainee surnamed Xiao said that choice is more important than ability. He intends to keep up with the cutting-edge ideas of experts and scholars, and seize new opportunities emerging in the development of agricultural products.

Lin Yuning, deputy director of the Guangdong Employment Service Administration, said rural e-commerce is barely afoot compared with traditional e-commerce, and needs highly skilled talents. The training camp, which combines theoretical and practical studies, helps to improve the comprehensive capability of rural e-commerce leaders and lays a foundation for future development.

The trainees will take field trips to Vipshop, Pinduoduo, and Zhuhai Shiyiren Community Agricultural Technology. Roadshows and business matchmaking events are scheduled for outstanding companies to showcase quality agricultural products.
