Jiuzhou Port building gives way for new one by 2023
Demolition of the Jiuzhou Port Passenger Terminal Joint Inspection Building in Jida was completed Sept 2 and domestic travelers must use a nearby temporary Clearance Hall to the west.
The replacement Passenger Transport Center is to be finished before 2023 at the original site off South Lovers Avenue (Jiuzhougang Road). It will blend both the natural and cultural landscape of Jiuzhou Bay, while providing integrated business, leisure, daily life, and entertainment services.
At the same time, Jiuzhou Bay Area of Blue Sea Economy Industrial Park is also underway as a comprehensive transport hub and coastal international leisure and tourism destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Transformation commenced in early 2019 and the 320-m (1,050-ft) Zhuhai Jiuzhou Tower will open next year.
Jiuzhou was sanctioned as Category 1 by the National Office of Port Administration since September 1982. It now is China's largest waterway passenger port, receiving more than 5 million passengers annually. With the increasing traffic, the old facility had been overloaded for many years.
