Guangdong delineates vital industrial roles for Zhuhai
The Guangdong Provincial People's Government has designated Zhuhai as a pivotal point for strategic pillar industrial clusters of smart household appliances, automobiles, advanced materials, software and information services, and biomedicine and healthcare by 2025.
An outline for Strategic Pillar & Emerging Industrial Clusters with global competitiveness was released on May 20. It also envisions emerging Zhuhai industrial clusters in semiconductors and integrated circuits, high-end equipment manufacture, intelligent robots, blockchains and quantum information, cutting-edge new materials, laser and additive manufacturing, and digital creative applications.
As home to industrial giant Gree Electric Appliances, Zhuhai will hold a key position in Guangdong's household appliance manufacturing network. The cluster will consolidate the world-leading status of Guangdong-made air-conditioners, refrigerators, electric rice cookers, and microwave ovens. It will also vigorously promote production of televisions and light-fixtures plus integration of traditional and small appliances with the Internet.
The city will be key to Guangdong's automobile industrial layout as it increases the proportion of self-branded, high-end, and new-energy vehicles with reliable supportive systems to supply spare parts. A distinctive and advantageous advanced-materials industrial cluster will also take form in Zhuhai for scaled, green, and high-end development.

The provincial government supports Zhuhai in developing an independent software industrial ecosystem. This would consist of a characterized software industry and innovative new-generation information technology and other advantageous industries. In the meantime, the city has a biomedicine and health innovation cluster that will create new businesses, cultivate several advantageous industries, and make breakthroughs in core technology.
In addition, a 200-billion ($28-billion) chip design industrial cluster will take shape in Zhuhai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen to spur development of third-generation semiconductors. The city is to become a high-end equipment manufacturing base with distinctive pillar industries, and a robot production center rife with in-depth application scenarios.
An innovation-oriented and application-pioneered industrial cluster will be established to lead domestic blockchain technology and industry by mastering key technology, promoting infrastructure construction, and improving standard systems.
Also proposed in the city is a domestically leading new-materials industrial cluster to elevate innovation capability, strengthen fundamental applied research, tackle key technical problems, and promote synergetic development of upstream and downstream industries.
Moreover, Zhuhai will create a distinctive laser and additive manufacturing industrial cluster to realize innovative applications and integration in aerospace, electronic information, automobile, ship, nuclear power, mold, new-energy, quantum information, medical device, and cultural-creative sectors.
A local digital creative industrial cluster will advance applications of new technology, consolidate advantageous industries, accelerate development of new business, and foster leading enterprises and boutique IP products.
