From Doumen to Wanshan Island, Jinwan to Tangjiawan, residents are being conditioned to sort household waste while facilities are coming online to effectively dispose of it.

The Zhuhai Garbage Sorting Office, which is spearheading the campaign, reports that awareness concerning household garbage sorting and the processing of it have increased significantly over the past four months.

In Doumen, for instance, Zhongxin Eco-environmental Protection Industry Park will increase garbage incineration from 1,200 to 3,000 tons daily. By then, 100,000 tons of local household waste will be processed every month in this, the second phase of Zhuhai's environmentally friendly biomass thermoelectricity engineering project. Use of the facility within Fushan Industrial Park in northwestern Doumen is to result in no crude waste being dumped in landfills.

Nearby, Phase I of the kitchen waste disposal project is now underway. It will be able to dispose of 300 tons of kitchen refuse daily by the end of this year in the industrial park.

In countryside Doumen, Lianzhou Town is a model for rural household garbage sorting, regular collections, classification at source, reward points, and nearby disposal. Residents of Lianzhou's six villages are sorting garbage at an accuracy of up to 100 percent. Thirty percent of it is from kitchens.

In Xiangzhou District, 16 door-to-door publicity sessions and six training and themed events were held in downtown areas during the first quarter of this year. Information was posted on 250 posters and flags on lamp poles. Hengqin New Area hosted an additional 13 promotions.

Also, in Xiangzhou, construction at Big Wanshan Island Garbage Sorting & Disposal Site has been completed, and work on the Garbage Sorting Center & Publicity and Education Base of the Zhuhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan) is to begin in August.

Farther south, Jinwan District held its own 31 publicity events.

The Zhuhai Garbage Sorting Office says all hazardous waste has been properly collected and disposed of. In addition, the office is improving operations and publicity, building the supervisory team, installing sorting cans, and collecting more kitchen garbage. Meanwhile, residential community and proprietor committees are promoting garbage classification. The drive is having property management teams supervise on-site instruction.
