Sanzao Folk Songs
Coming into being in the reign of Emperor Tao-Kuang (Daoguang) in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), Sanzao Folk Songs thrived in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China period. They have spread to the western areas of today’s Zhuhai, and are sung by islanders in Sanzao, Nanshui, Gaolan, Xiaolin, and neighboring areas.
The repertoire includes Mountain Song, Bai Cailian (gathering lotus seeds), Crane Song, Wedding Lament, and five melodies, all sung in Cantonese.
