Increasingly convenient services to Hong Kong and Macao taxpayers are being provided on Hengqin New Area now that two "smart services" are being coordinated with a Macao outlet of the Guangdong-Macao Business Service Center.

The Tax Service Area for Hong Kong and Macao of the Hengqin New Area Taxation Bureau, a cloud service platform, went into service on April 13. In half the time previously required, Hong Kong and Macao residents can handle tax-related real estate affairs locally via WeChat.

Taxpayers can make video contact with the V-Tax long-distance visible self-service taxation system, use their Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents for real-name authentication, cooperate with information collection, and log onto the WeChat platform of Guangdong Provincial Tax Service to acquire their data from the Real Estate Registration Center.

Meanwhile, a Smart Taxation Micro-Service Hall opened on Monday at the TCM Science & Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation Between Guangdong & Macao to provide one-stop services for 200 in-house and nearby enterprises.

Covering more than 50-sq-m (60-sq-yd), the hall comprises Smart and V-Tax taxation, waiting and policy publicity areas. It can help handle taxation matters ranging from invoices, declarations, and social insurance to business registration, and administrative examination and then issue approvals within five minutes.

For instance, taxpayers seeking invoice issuance can log in on a relevant interface via a facial recognition system. Their applications will be sent to the back-end system of the Tax Service Area for Hong Kong and Macao of the Hengqin New Area Taxation Bureau for real-time approval. The entire process takes less than three minutes.

A pioneer in taxation innovation, Hengqin has generated 16 innovative reforms that have been promoted in Guangdong. Four were chosen as Institutional Innovation cases of the Guangdong Free Trade Zone.
