Macao neighborhood awarded legal rights in Hengqin
Macao New Neighborhood in Hengqin New Area received rights to use 190,000 sq m (47 acres) of State-owned construction land in Hengqin New Area to give Macao people such livelihood facilities and public services as they are accustomed to.
The contract between Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee and Macau Urban Renewal was signed April 9, but online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With floorage of 422,000 sq m (104 acres), the project will provide 3,800 housing units at below-market prices for qualified Macao residents only, as well as 200 apartments as talent rental residences.
In addition to businesses and parks, the integrated community will have public support facilities built in accordance with Macao criteria and standards related to medical treatment, education, and community services.
The first comprehensive livelihood project in the Chinese mainland tailored for Macao citizens, it will address the land shortage in the SAR and provide the benefits of the Hengqin Free Trade Zone. It is located east of Zhongxin Avenue, south of Small Hengqin Mt, west of Tianyu Road, and north of Gang'ao Avenue.
Macau Urban Renewal, a public company founded by the Macao SAR Government to develop real estate projects in and outside of Macao, is the general contractor. It is well-experienced in urban development and urban layout.
Over the past decade, Hengqin has been exploring livelihood cooperation with Macao. This has ranged from single-license plates for Macao vehicles and basic medical insurance to cross-border office areas and free express lines, said Yang Chuan, head of the Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee.
