Lawns, blossoms, lighting invigorate Meihua Garden
Meihua Urban Garden has been spruced up with vast stretches of lawns, year-round blooms, and distinctive lighting facilities. By the May Day holiday, 1,500 sq m (1,794 sq yd) of sunflowers will blossom at the site in New Xiangzhou on West Meihua Road across from Xiangshan Rest Station.
Throughout three seasons it will be brightened by bauhinia variegata, golden and pink trumpet trees in spring, African tulip trees (spathodea) and giant crape myrtle (lagerstroemia speciosa) in summer, and sweet-scented osmanthus and litchi and banana forests in autumn.

The entrance is set against bamboo, topiary trees, and floral backgrounds of seasonal spicy jatropha (jatropha integerrima), ligustrum sinense Variegatum, bright eyes (catharanthus roseus), tricolor Madagascar dragon trees, Chinese ixora, and snow bush (breynia nivosa).
Zhuhai Xiangzhou Zhengfang Holdings trimmed overgrown plants along the footpaths and planted lawns during the one-month transformation. Lawns now cover 60,000 sq m (15 acres) designated for camping and other outdoor activities.
Slash pine and other trees have been preserved or transplanted so that large areas of each species will create colorful copses varying with tree growth.
In addition, the long-used dim illuminations have been replaced with multicolored lighting in the shape of barn lanterns, bird nest, pandas, and gypsophila to improve both safety and the nightscape.
