Customs expedites housing for non-locals in Macao
The final shipment of 376 modular housing units exported from Foshan to Macao for epidemic prevention and control was released on Feb 26 following expedited clearance at Hengqin Customs.
The prefabricated units, which measure 18 sq m (22 sq yd), are equipped with 5G temperature detectors, air-conditioners, washing machines, and iron beds. They will be used as temporary dormitories for non-native employees of Macao enterprises during the corona virus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.
In the face of such quantity and tight schedules, Hengqin Customs allowed the units to be declared while documents were being prepared. Staff instructed how to make online declarations and helped solve logistics problems. Multiple departments were on standby day and night to ensure the shipments would be released on the day they arrived.
