State Council commends local sci-tech achievements
Three Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai companies were cited by the State Council in Beijing on Jan 10 for having made prominent contributions to domestic scientific and technological development over the past year.
CRCC Harbor & Channel Engineering Bureau Group received one of the special 2019 State Scientific & Technological Progress Awards for the R&D and industrialization of large marine cutter-suction dredging equipment.
The state-owned Qianshan-Hengqin construction company was recognized for achievements in rapid excavation of high-strength seabed reefs, efficient dredging and conveying in large passages, and complex multi-system optimization and integration in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and related enterprises and institutions.
The technologies enable dredgers to maintain stable positions, excavate hardy rocks quickly and convey large-particle materials remotely in harsh sea conditions. The techniques have been applied in three domestically designed and constructed large cutter-suction dredgers with completely independent intellectual property rights.
The dredgers have played an important role in the 100,000-ton shipping route of Shandong's Dongying Port, Cambodia's Port of Kampot, and the preservation and dredging of the right bank of Bangladesh's Padma River.
Last year the construction company received a first-prize State Scientific & Technological Progress Award for developing the theory, key technology, and engineering application of composite foundations.

Second prize of the State Technological Invention Awards was given Xiangzhou-based Gree Electric Appliances of Qianshan for key technology and application of large-capacity high-efficiency centrifugal air conditioning equipment.
Gree's variable-frequency centrifugal compressor with high-speed motor direct-driven impeller, high-efficiency pneumatic design method adaptive to any working conditions, as well as its high-power permanent magnet motor and drive system, significantly reduces building energy consumption.
The series of products have been used at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing Daxing International Airport, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, JD Cloud (East China) Data Center, main venue of the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition, and data centers of China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom.
Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan) company Sima Technology shared a second prize of the State Technological Invention Awards with Wuhan University, Wuhan Tang Ji Science & Technology, and Chengdu Mechan Electronic Technology.
They made achievements in key technology and clinical application of a minimally invasive plasma prostatectomy surgery system with all-new intracavitary surgical instruments evolving from electroscalpel to plasm radiofrequency. The technology has been applied at more than 5,000 hospitals and adopted by prestigious guides of developed countries in Europe and America.
Zhuhai Sima Technology specializes in the research and development, production, and sales of high-end medical device products.
The State Scientific & Technological Progress and State Technological Invention awards are two of China's five highest scientific honors. The other categories are the State Preeminent Science & Technology, State Natural Science, and China International Science & Technology Cooperation awards.
Fifty Guangdong projects were recognized at the National Science & Technology Award Conference, breaking the record of 45 set last year.
