A new ferry route will open in May between Hengqin and Shenzhen, it was announced by Hengqin Ferry Terminal personnel during a promotion conference at Gree Dong'ao Hotel on Dec 27.

Currently, passengers use Jiuzhou Port in Jida to travel between Shekou Ferry Terminal in Shenzhen and Zhuhai by ship.

A water transport gateway and exchange hub for Hengqin New Area, the Hengqin Ferry Terminal was upgraded in May. The interior was redone and ticket vending machines, mother-and-baby rooms, barrier-free paths, and phone-charging stations were added.

The terminal now operates a 35-minute route to Dong'ao, the major island in the center of the Wanshan Archipelago. Other routes will be opened to Wailingding and Wanshan islands through collaboration with shipping companies, according to an official from Hengqin Ferry Terminal.

At the conference, a plan was announced to team Gree Dong'ao Hotel with Guangdong Wanshan Islands Tourism Development to create high-end island wedding products and build Dong'ao Island into a nuptials destination with distinctive features based on the island's geographic advantages and rich tourism resources.
