New checkpoint headway indicates 2020 completion
The Joint Inspection Building of the New Guangdong-Macao Channel (Qingmao Checkpoint) was topped off earlier this month, clearing the way for completion by the end of 2020.
A key livelihood project to form a fast transport network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the checkpoint is 800 m (875 yd) southwest of the Macao Frontier Post exit to Gongbei over the Canal de Patos.
Costing 5 billion Macao pataca ($623 million), the facility has floorage of 168,000 sq m (42 acres) and will have at least 50 inspection channels. It will adopt a "Joint Inspection & One-Time Release" mode with designed daily capability of 200,000 crossings.
Upon completion, it will be connected to the Intercity MRT Zhuhai Station via a 400-m (437-yd) weatherproof corridor and is to greatly alleviate pressure on Gongbei Checkpoint.
