The Doumen Scientific & Technological Innovation Center, which will integrate commercial office space, technical exchange, cultural exhibition, educational services, and leisure and entertainment functions, was topped off on Oct 30.

Costing about 600 million yuan ($85 million), the 5A class office building is 130 m (426 ft) in height, has floorage of 95,000 sq m (23 acres), and covers an outdoor landscape area of 38,000 sq m (9 acres). Scheduled to open by next July, the new landmark consists of a 29-floor main structure, podium building, and two-level basement.

Steel structure hoisting, mechanical and electrical engineering, and facade construction are now underway. Large-scale commissioning, outdoor landscaping, and more work will commence next spring.

Adjacent to Doumen Public Park and Jianfeng Mt Forest Park, the facility adopts a rainwater garden design in reference to the surrounding mountain and water resources and highlights the Sponge City concept.

The center has passed preliminary evaluation for a Guangdong Construction Project Award for Quality Structure, and re-evaluation as a provincial demonstrative construction site. It also earned awards of excellence in the 3rd National "Golden Impeller" Heating, Ventilation & Air-conditioning (HVAC) Design and Guangdong Building Information Modeling (BIM) Application competitions.
