Upgrades start around Gongbei airport transit station
Support facilities near Zhuhai Station of the Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit came under construction on Oct 10 to address traffic congestion and improve the slow-traffic system in the vicinity.
In the first phase, pedestrian squares south of the station and in front of Qingmao Checkpoint's (New Guangdong-Macao Channel) major entrance-exit will be built on 13,600 sq m (3.4 acres) of pavement. A slow-traffic space will be reserved for the checkpoint.
In addition, a 3,000-sq-m (3,588-sq-yd) taxi stand will be built west of Yuehai International Garden residential community. Riders will access the area after walking across the two squares.

Furthermore, traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Changping and Changsheng roads. Related work includes pipeline, road, transport, security and surveillance, and lighting. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Research and planning for the second phase are underway. It may add exclusive right-turn lanes to the Changping Bridge, and lanes to the south side of Changsheng Road to divert traffic flow on South Guihua Road.
The Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit first section connecting the Gongbei Border to Hengqin New Area is expected to open on Nov 20. The second phase, from Hengqin to Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, is to be completed by January 2023.
