Work begins on landmark overlooking Xianglu Bay
Construction has begun on a comprehensive urban landmark integrating greenways, watercourse, footpaths, trestles, and cableways on North Haibin Road between Jida and Old Xiangzhou.
The 87-acre City Balcony landscape project will be fully ready by 2021.
A brand-new calling card for Zhuhai, the two-story viewing platform of City Balcony will overlook Xianglu Bay and Beach, Central Lovers Avenue, Zhuhai Opera House on Yeli Island, the Fisher Maiden, and Shijing Mt Park to the west. It is also very near City Parlor (Haibin Beach) and Haibin Park. The site includes the now-demolished Qiaoyuan Hotel on the east side of North Haibin Road.

Nearby, a project promotion meeting and ground-breaking ceremony were held in Shijing Mt Park on Tuesday, Oct 8. Phase 1 is located opposite the Wanghailou (Sea-overlook Tower) Hotel. The site encompasses a bronze statue of Yang Pao'an, Wanghai Pavilion, and part of a walkway with open sea views. This section is expected to open to visitors in November this year, according to the contractor.
Meanwhile, scenic spots incorporating culture and art and a tourist distribution center will be built in Shijing Mt Park on the west side of North Haibin Road. A building with two floors above ground and one below will contain a public car park and tourist service facilities.
In the park, renewed ropeways will adopt advanced cable cars and slideway equipment. Cuihu Lake will be beautified with Lingnan-style architecture, a crescent bridge, and waterside platform, while ornamental fish and aquatic fish grass and lotus will be raised. Outdoor recreational and sports facilities for families are planned to the south of the lake.

A pedestrian tunnel along Cuihu Lake and under North Haibin Road will connect to an overpass above Lovers Avenue leading to Xianglu Beach.
In addition, winding footways and plank roads will embrace the lake, park, mountain, beach, and surrounding buildings.
Altogether 500 indoor parking spaces and nine outdoor ones for buses will be available.
