Golden Week celebration activities across the country for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China contributed to the soaring number of travelers. A closer tie among Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area members and easier customs clearance also contributed to the growth.
To date, Gongbei Checkpoint has processed 110 million individual travelers this year, an increase of 8.6 percent over the same period in 2018. The volume is expected to climb for the Halloween and Christmas holidays.
