Doumen District has readied itself for both locals and out-of-towners with idyllic scenery, cultural activities, and indigenous food during the upcoming golden-week National Day holiday.

Visiting foodies will find plenty to whet their appetites -- everything from Baijiao Sea Bass, Double-Shelled Crab, Doumen Xiaofeng Cake (Chicken Cake), Lianxi Moon Cake With Red Bean Paste, and Fried Eel Slices of Qianwu Town to Dachikan Open Flame Roast Pork & Spare Ribs, Hengshan Preserved Duck Bundles (Ya Zha Bao), Hushan Jinchao Pipa Duck, Seaweed Pork (raised on a diet of seaweed), Wormwood Rice Cake, and Glutinous Rice Balls.

Apart from dining, three boutique travel routes are recommended by the Doumen District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism & Sports Bureau for National Day holiday revelers. They will be taken on a slow-paced journey through natural ecology and profound culture, with a dash of rural fun added in.

Route 1 (10 km/6.2 miles)

This route leads to an idyllic get-away at Zen Cloud Resort (停云小镇)-- Lianjiang Village (莲江村) -- Huawei Restaurant (华威餐厅) -- Lingnan Wonderland (岭南大地) -- Tian Tian Dian Ji B&B (天天惦记民宿) in Lianzhou Town, where there is a rich offering of countryside sightseeing, homestay experience, culinary delights, and leisure activities.  

Route 2

The cornucopia of Doumen's culture can be found at Jintai Temple (金台寺)-- Doumen Old Street (斗门旧街)-- Lvyi Ancestral Hall (菉猗堂) -- Yu Xia Yuan Mud Stewed Chicken Restaurant (御霞苑) (lunch) -- Jiexia Manor (接霞庄) -- Yu Wen Quan Imperial Hot Springs Resort (御温泉度假村). The route was listed among the first Boutique Routes for Guangdong Countryside Tourism in August.

Route 3 (30 km/18.6 miles)

Those on a family tour can pick fruit at Shiyiren Pitaya Farm (十亿人有机火龙果庄园); and then ride horses, fire arrows, picnic, and fish in Nan'ao Village (南澳村). For something out of the ordinary, they can watch crocodiles perform at Crocodile Island and sample Hakka cuisine in Xiashan Village 虾山村（虾山大院）.
