Rising number of border crossings made via Gongbei
Gongbei Checkpoint processed 70.83 million individual travelers in the first half of this year, up 9 percent from same period in 2018. The number of daily border crossings averaged 390,000.
The checkpoint led the country in recording single-day border crossings of 462,500, 466,100, and 481,300 on March 16, April 6 and May 2, respectively. It also broke its own record with 362,700 mainlander crossings on May 2.
The volume is expected to remain high in the second half of this year due to a soaring number of family tours during summer vacation and National Day.
Exit crossings are mostly made between 9 am and noon, while most inbound traffic occurs between 5 and 8 pm. Travelers are advised to avoid these periods and to use e-channels. The validity of exit-entry documents and visas/endorsements should be checked in advance, and precautions taken to avoid taking family and friends' documents by mistake.
