Zhuhai Ave approved for expansion to relieve traffic
The only express traffic route between Xiangzhou and the western Jinwan and Doumen districts, Zhuhai Avenue will be extended to address ever-increasing traffic pressure and unbalanced development.
A feasibility report on the project has recently been approved, according to a public notice posted on the Zhuhai Highway Bureau website June 12.
The proposed east-west route, with a length of 4.55 km (3 miles), will go from west of the Zhuhai Bridge to west of the Niwanmen Bridge. The cost is 2 billion yuan ($289 million).

The extension involves 1.28 km (.8 miles) of major line, which will run beneath the Hezhou-Gaolan Port Expressway via immersed tunnels. It will be a dual eight-lane structure with designed speed of 100 kmph (65 mph), and 80 kmph (50 mph) for the 675-m (738-yd) tunnel section.
Meanwhile, 4.55 km (2.83 miles) of auxiliary road will be added with dual six lanes and speed limits set at 50 kmph (31 mph). Paralleling it will be non-motor-vehicle lanes and sidewalks.
Other works include anti-collision and water conservancy facilities, security surveillance, streetlamps, pipelines, pump stations, landscaping, and more.
