Marine sports lifted by Xianglu Bay bouts in the wind
Chinese competitors dominated the Nov 23-30 Asian Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Championships in Zhuhai, pocketing all 11 windsurfing and one of four kiteboarding titles.
The other kiteboarding gold medals went to Thailand, Singapore, and Australia.
Asia's most prestigious windsurfing and inaugural kiteboarding events saw 200 contestants battle in 15 categories. The waters off Xianglu Bay in Xiangzhou District were dotted with assorted sails, with the Fisher Maiden statue, Opera House, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as backdrops.
Go with the wind
The two events attracted keen interest from locals, tourists, and shutterbugs. They are seen as impetus for the local marine economy and leisure and tourism development.
Next, organizer Jiuzhou Holdings Group will hold the 1st Jiuzhou Cup·Zhuhai-Macao Bay Sailing Championship in late December to promote water-based culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This should further advance marine sports and coastal tourism.
