General aviation airport comes to fruition in Doumen
Zhuhai General Aviation Airport in Lianzhou Town will be completed this month, contributing to China's goal of building such ports to serve prefecture-level cities, major agricultural production and forest areas, and top-level tourist destinations by 2020.
The new regional airport is in northern Doumen District, about 50 km (31 miles) north of Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport in Sanzao Town of Jinwan District. It has eight aircraft stands and will provide navigation, emergency rescue, general aviation exhibitions, low-altitude tourism, flight training, disaster monitoring, aircraft assembly, test flight, maintenance, and repair services. Such airports do not have scheduled passenger service.
Nearly completed Phase I has a 3-hectare (7.4-acre) apron, 900-m (984-yd) runway, and 168 m (184 yd) of links. The terminal area includes an integrated service building, hangar, garage for special-purpose vehicles, and tank station.

The next step is to build a general aviation park, which will have a manufacturing logistics area, water airport, and aviation community. According to estimates, by 2020 investment in the industrial zone will have reached more than 6.2 billion yuan ($893 million), contributing an annual output value of 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion).
The airport will also support Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park in Jinwan, according to Huang Dewen, deputy general manager of Zhuhai General Aviation Airport Investment & Construction Co. It is a key project with provincial approval.
