Zhuhai companies big winners at Shanghai import expo
A delegation of 390 companies from Zhuhai sealed more than 100 deals worth $360 million at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10.
Intelligent and high-end equipment represents roughly a quarter of the value of the contracts. Gree Electric Appliances entered into a long-term trading relationship with Japan's Mitsubishi Electric and Sanken Electric, signing a $100 million procurement contract for integrated semiconductor circuits and chips.
Procurement also focused on consumer electronics and home appliances, apparel and accessories, daily necessities, smart and high-end devices, food and farm produce, medical equipment, medicine and healthcare, as well as service fields.

The event strongly prompted Guangdong's advanced equipment manufacturers to "go global." Other industry leaders such as Siemens, Canon, and DMG MORI were also invited by the Zhuhai Commerce Bureau and given access to equipment technology service providers. The matchmaking was sponsored by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province.
Meanwhile, Gree, China Electronics Zhuhai, and Zhuhai Tools & Equipment signed partnership agreements and import contracts valued at $200 million, capping Xiangzhou District investment promotion and targeting deeper trade ties with European, American, and Belt & Road countries.
At the expo, Hengqin was publicized as yet another business hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with over 100 company representatives and entrepreneurs invited to learn about its wide range of advantages.
The CIIE was held at the National Exhibition & Convention Center (Shanghai). Attending were 3,600 companies from more than 172 countries, regions, and three international organizations. They provided producers of the latest technology and design in various industries with exposure to 400,000 buyers. The value of finalized deals exceeded $57.8 billion.
