China's first early warning drone and the world's first of its kind, the JY-300, went on display at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China), held from Nov 6 to 11 in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.
The unmanned early warning system was developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and it is a machine the size of combat drone Caihong-4 (CH-4) that combines missions of reconnaissance and attack.
JY-300 can be installed with multiple types of radar, including a fixed active phased array radar to monitor targets on sea and air. It adapts to complex climate and terrain conditions, such as plateaus and mountains.
Its air range extends over 1,000 kilometers, and it has a flying height of more than 5,000 meters according to researchers.
Information on the JY-300 was first made public in June at a radar expo in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
