Strong aviation park showing power at Airshow China

Updated: 2018-10-23

Growth of Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park over the past decade, which includes manufacturing agreements with an accumulative value of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), will be promoted to worldwide attendees during Airshow China from Nov 6 to 11.

According to Jinwan District officials, there will be promotional conferences at an influential State-level tradeshow to celebrate Guangdong's only industrial park for development of the aviation industry.

The provincial park was announced with high hopes on Nov 4, 2008. Since then it has added to infrastructure, various innovations, and Zhuhai's favorable business environment.

Burgeoning Aviation Industrial Park

The park grew into an aviation manufacturing base under an industry-university-research model and has become an aviation hi-tech industry center. Zhuhai since has been named a National Aviation High-tech Industrial Base, National Demonstration Area for General Aviation Fixed-Base Operations, and National Comprehensive Demonstration Zone of General Aviation (GA) Industry.

According to statistics, as of this month, Aviation Industrial Park completed 34 infrastructure investment projects and implemented a government investment plan worth 7.4 billion yuan ($1.2 billion), according to Xia Zhigao, deputy director of the park Administrative Committee.

From January to August 2018, total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size at the park reached 27.8 billion yuan ($4.4 billion), a year-on-year increase of 14.1 percent. Data show the cumulative value added of industrial enterprises above designated size was 7 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) in the first eight months.

Continuous innovation and experiments have enabled the park to go further. For example, it built the first flight service station of any local government in China in 2014, providing services from meteorological data collection to rescues. That same year it opened its first low-altitude flight route (Zhuhai-Yangjiang-Luoding) in China.

China's homegrown AG600 (codenamed Kunlong), the world's largest amphibious aircraft, was assembled in the park. The product is the third member of China's "large aircraft family," along with freighter Y-20 and passenger aircraft C919. It completed its first flight in Zhuhai on Dec 24 last year and carried out its first water takeoff and landing in Hubei province's Jingmen on Oct 20.

The park's progress is also due in part to China Aviation Industry General Aircraft (CAIGA) Co, which has created a general aviation industrial development that integrates marketing, research and development, manufacturing, test flights and delivery, operations, and service. The park will incubate other whole-set aircraft enterprises.

Other companies in the park, such as Longhua Helicopters, Zhuhai Baijia Technology, and Yuren Agricultural Aviation, engage in R&D and manufacture of whole-set systems and parts for unmanned aircraft.

Zhuhai plans to construct an airport for the park. City officials say the park will accelerate formation of a high-end industrial system with manufacturing and operations as its core, and an entire industrial chain of R&D, maintenance, and modern services as parameters. General aviation and aviation ancillary services would be facilitated as a result.

The park will also be home to an industrial-grade area of drone development.
