Construction of West Wing hospital now underway
The building of a public comprehensive hospital up to Grade-3 Class-A standards in Western Central Urban Area Zone A, a first for the West Wing, commenced in Doumen District on June 27. It is expected to be completed by June 2021.
Named the Zhuhai Western Medical Center, the hospital will integrate treatment, education, research, and health preservation. It will have all-round easy access for residents in the western central urban area with the Huangyang River in the north, Huxin Road to the east, Hongqi Town central area in the south, and Xiaolin Town to the west.
Notably, a helipad atop Complex Building is designed for transporting patients through a vertical elevator directly to the operating room.
The .11-sq-km (27.2-acre) center will have total floorage of 168,830 sq m (41.7 acres), including 120,000 sq m (29.7 acres) above ground. Designated for the first phase are emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and medico-technical departments. Planned are 1,000 beds, offices, living quarters, and security and administration areas. Space is reserved for an additional 500 beds to meet long-term goals. The facility is to be modeled after the new Beijing Tongren Hospital.
Construction site
Basement levels will include a civil air defense area and emergency center with 50 to 100 beds, staff-only housing, and parking garage.
There will be 1,720 parking spaces in all, including 1,300 above ground. Also, 432 charging posts will be installed for new-energy vehicles.
The medical complex will become a two-star example of the Chinese three-star green building rating system. It will have surroundings of rich vibrant greenery well-arranged on rooftops and in corridors, courtyards, and gardens. This could help patients to heal, according to Chu Zhenglong, chief designer of the project.
Until the project is completed, West Wing residents can continue to get treatment from the 5th Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University and Guangdong General Hospital (Zhuhai Hospital) among other selections, according to the municipal Health & Family Planning Bureau.
