Zhuhai Suoka Sport Culture Development will invest over 3 billion yuan ($469 million) to convert an abandoned quarry in Pingsha Town of Jinwan District, Zhuhai into a huge football training base.

An agreement was signed on June 12 to place lawns for 72 training fields of 11-player football teams. Alongside will be 160,000 sq m (40 acres) of amenities, which can accommodate more than 10,000 people.

Upon completion in December 2019, the Zhuhai Suoka National (Southern) Football Training Base might become the largest of its kind in Asia and even the world. It will host large-scale soccer matches, training, educational games, and warm-ups.

The training base can mark Pingsha as a football-themed characteristic small town. The project is included in the Spatial Planning of Guangdong Football Field Construction and Zhuhai's 13th Five-Year Plan for Sports Development (2016-20).
