The Cantonese lion dance in Doumen emerged in Hongxing, Zhongxin, Dong’an, and other villages in Lianxi Town some 400 years ago. Featuring martial arts, dance and music, the dance existed in every village and town and won immense fame in surrounding areas.

It was designated one of the third-batch intangible cultural heritage items under city-level protection in June 2010.
