World circus leader praises Zhuhai locale
Zhuhai is “the most suitable place” in China to hold the International Circus Festival, according to Urs Pilz, president of the Fédération Mondiale du Cirque. Pilz, who comes from Monte Carlo, made the comment on April 16, World Circus Day, which was celebrated at Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort on Hengqin Island.
“Zhuhai has successfully hosted the past two sessions of the International Circus Festival,” said Pilz. He also hailed Chimelong resort’s circus troupe as an influential part of the world circus community, which comprises more than 500 performers from 200 countries and has reached audiences of 25 million since 2000.
With the theme of Circus Is All Around, this year’s event was the first to include China among the 40-odd countries simultaneously staging more than 200 shows around the world to mark the holiday.
Established in 2010, World Circus Day takes place on the third Saturday of every April.
This year in Zhuhai, the Chimelong resort’s circus troupe stole the spotlight with its show titled Wonderland, pleasing the audiences with stunts, aerial acrobatics, animal-taming and magic.
