Jizhou is located in the northernmost part of Tianjin and is situated in the hinterland of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei's Tangshan and Chengde. With an area of 1,590 square kilometers and a population of 865,700, it consists of 26 townships and one neighborhood office. A historical and cultural site in Tianjin, Jizhou was a human settlement about 8,000 years ago. Jizhou had a strategic importance during the wars in ancient China, and is home to many prominent historical figures, pagodas, temples, stone inscriptions and tombs. The cultural depth in the history of Jizhou has exerted great influence upon the development of the district's modern economy.
