Yan Hua is a world-renowned expert in the field of ophthalmology and has been engaged in clinical and basic research on vitreoretinal diseases and ocular trauma for a long time. He is vice-president of the Asia Pacific Ophthalmic Trauma Society, president of China Ocular Trauma Society, and chief of International Joint Laboratory of Ocular Diseases under the Ministry of Education.

He has dedicated himself to ocular trauma research, striving to promote standardized diagnosis and precise treatment of ocular trauma, establishing comprehensive ocular trauma data, preventing ocular trauma through big data analysis, and strengthening translational research in ocular trauma.

By applying epigenetic multi-omics analysis to investigate the changes in RPE (retinal pigment epithelium) cells in PVR (proliferative vitreoretinopathy) from ocular trauma, Yan has constructed a regulatory network of transcription factors and proposed various intraocular interventions to alleviate PVR progression, which may resolve the challenges in PVR treatment and occupy a leading position in this field globally.

For the publication, Yan invited leading experts in ocular trauma with the collaboration of renowned ophthalmologists from Asia, America, Europe and elsewhere to provide novel insights on current consensuses and controversies in pioneering areas of ocular trauma, the main cause of eye disease.

The publication collates international expertise and provides practical clinical strategies and research guidance for ophthalmologists at different levels through abundant cases combined with a theoretical approach.

Professor Richard L. Abbott, president of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, and professor Ferenc Kuhn, chairman of the International Society of Ocular Trauma, have praised the publication, which establishes a knowledge platform centered on ocular trauma for ophthalmologists, delineates the opportunities, drives theoretical and practical innovations in ocular trauma, and brings hope to more patients suffering ocular trauma.
