To celebrate Tianjin's 620th anniversary, the city will host the 17th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students and the 4th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Show for Foreign Primary School Students for the first time. Known for its rich history and cultural blend of East and West, Tianjin provides a fitting backdrop for this prestigious event.

Participants from around the world will explore iconic sites across Beijing and Tianjin while competing in challenges that immerse them in Chinese culture. Through interactive, hands-on activities, contestants will gain a deeper appreciation of China's traditions and history.

Highlights of the event include a tour of Tianjin's Wudadao historical urban area, or the Five Great Avenues, where participants will learn about the city's history through the stories of famous former residents. They will also visit Ancient Culture Street to experience traditional Chinese crafts like Niren Zhang's clay figurines and Yangliuqing New Year paintings. A visit to the Tianjin Theater Museum will provide insights into the art of crosstalk, a unique form of Chinese comedy.

Running from Oct 15 to 29, the competition features two segments: one for secondary school students and another for primary school students. Contestants will showcase their Chinese language skills, talents and dreams through a shared language.

The events seeks to not only encourage Chinese language learning, but also strengthen cultural connections between participants and China.
