A 1,000 years old ink painting on silk, Snow-Covered Scene and Cold Forest, a cultural relic under China's national-level protection, is on display at the Tianjin Museum.

It is among 100 cultural relics dating from the Song (960-1279) and Yuan(1271-1368) dynasties exhibited at the Tianjin Museum, with 70 percent of them being presented for the first time.

This monumental hanging scroll, painted across three pieces of silk and imbued with a sense of lofty grandeur, is one of the few surviving works of Fan Kuan.

"Tianjin has a complete collection of fine cultural relics, which is attributed to a large extent to donations by patriotic collectors, donors and their descendants," said Yao Yang, head of the Tianjin Museum. As for the case of the precious painting, it was also received as a donation.

The Tianjin Museum said that the cultural relics are particularly sensitive to temperature, humidity, and light, so the painting will presented until Feb 26 before going back for restoration.
