Tianjin is an ancient coastal city at least 600 years old located right next to Beijing in North China. It is a balanced blend of old and new, abundant in historical and cultural resources and a major economic center with national impact.

It has witnessed positive outcomes in its efforts to pursue high-quality development, and will continue boosting productivity and seeking new momentum to foster sustainable development.

Following the success of season one, Tianjin releases the second season of Tianjin Insight series, which presents a panoramic view of the port city’s evolution and achievements through the eyes of expats living there.

This episode is about Johannes Marschall, president of FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Branch. He comes from Bayern of southern Germany.

Marschall said that they have made thorough consideration before deciding to build their North China plant in Tianjin, as it is an economic powerhouse in the region and an international city with convenient transportation.

The beautiful scenery and the friendliness of the Tianjin people are positives for him.

For a decade, Tianjin formulated rules and regulations to improve the ecological environment.

The clean and tidy North China plant of FAW-Volkswagen covered in lush green vegetation is impressive. To the delight of its staff, egrets, national second-class protected animal, “residents” in Qilihai Wetland nearby always visit the plant.

“We attempted to minimize resource and energy consumption, and shifted to renewables,” said Marschall. The plant is equipped with fully automated technology and is highly competitive.

This factory is an epitome of Tianjin transforming from “Made in Tianjin” to “Intelligent Manufacturing in Tianjin”. With more and more industrial robot enterprises and automation equipment enterprises emerging in Tianjin, there will be a cluster effect, leading more enterprises onto the fast lane of digital transformation.
