The city card has been officially issued since 2006. It is an IC card with the functions of an electronic wallet that can be recharged repeatedly. At present, cardholders can use it in municipal public areas such as public transportation, subway, light rail, taxi and to pay for tap water and gas in Tianjin. Users can purchase and recharge cards at the Bank of Communications, Post Offices, Bus Stations, Subway Stations, Light Rail Stations and CR Vanguard Convenience Stores in Tianjin. The deposit for the Tianjin City Card is 18 yuan, and the amount of each recharge is an integral multiple of 10 yuan's. Users can enjoy 5 percent off, 10 percent off the subway and 5 percent off the light rail.
From January 1, 2018, all the city cards with the "Transport Union" logo can be usedin the Tianjin urban area, Tianjin Binhai Bus Line, Tianjin Metro Line, Beijing and Hebei Province (Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Langfang, Zhangjiakou, Tangshan, Qinhuangdao, Chengde, Cangzhou, Xingtai, Handan and Hengshui) to take a bus or subway and enjoy preferential local fare policies.
