The comprehensive enhancement project for the central axis of the Hongqiao International Central Business District (CBD) has received official approval. It is expected to help improve local transportation infrastructure, enhance public spaces, and alleviate passenger flow pressure in the core area.
The project covers the core area of the Hongqiao International CBD, from Shenhong Road in the east to South Shenbin Road in the west, and from Shaohong Road in the south to Suhong Road in the north, spanning approximately 62,000 square meters.
It includes redeveloping passenger dispersal areas, reconstructing existing roads, enhancing public transportation facilities, and the refurbishment of escalators, greenery, lighting, and traffic signage.
The upgrade will improve connectivity for both surface and underground passages, enhancing pedestrian traffic flow and safety. New facilities for ride-hailing services, buses, and non-motorized vehicle parking will optimize transfer routes between key nodes and public transport stations, easing transportation pressure on the Hongqiao hub, the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), and the CBD core area. Enhanced public amenities and relaxation spaces promise to enhance both functionality and appeal.
