The COZI apartment block in the Xinhong community of the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central District recently opened.
Transformed from an idle shopping mall, the block has 589 suites of different types, ranging from 42 square meters to 98 sq m.
For example, a 58-sq m one-bedroom suite is equipped with essential home appliances, including a washing machine, a refrigerator, an induction cooker, and an independent bathroom. Seventy percent of the apartments have an open balcony.

The top of the buildings, which spans about 600 sq m, has been built into a multifunctional area for physical exercise, reading, tabletop games, and more.
The five apartment buildings are connected to the commercial complex COZI MART, where Starbucks, KFC, Pizza Hot, and various restaurants and retail outlets are located.
According to the apartment operator, about 70 percent of the tenants work less than 5 kilometers from the apartments.
"I don't like taking subways. I can walk to my workplace here," said a tenant named Ding. She is one of the first tenants of the apartments.
"I have much luggage, and the apartment has sufficient wardrobes to meet my demands," Ding added.
Xinhong community is home to 378 office buildings and nearly 4,000 companies. It has been beefing up efforts to enhance services for the increasing number of workers in the area.
